Witcombe Cider Festival is already set to be bigger and better than ever after it was confirmed the annual bash will be moving to a new location and expanded to provide a major weekend festival over the August Bank Holiday weekend.
Last month, the festival’s founder Joe Pointon was granted a licence to move the event to Brockworth, to cope with as many as 10,000 people.
The live music programme will be expanded and will run until 1am each day, staying open beyond the headline acts on the main stage.
A spokesman for the festival, one of biggest events in Gloucestershire’s calendar, said: “We are so excited for the second stage. That we are using a 30m big top marquee that has been to Glastonbury at our festival is going to be amazing.
“If our festival-goers want to stay at Witcombe when the main headline acts have finished, they can pop over to the Big Top, dance and enjoy more live music until 1am.
“Just as exciting for Witcombe, the benefit of the Big Top stage is that we can support up and coming bands, singers and DJs from our area – we‘d love to discover the next big thing.”
One of the acts to grace the new Big Top will be Witcombe favourites Phats and Small, who return after a barnstorming performance at last year’s event.
They will raise the volume on Sunday night, and Jason Phats said:
“Really pleased to be part of what was one of our highlights of 2017. Great atmosphere, great crowd. There will be some new special moments added to this years show – taking it to the next level.”
Some massive names have already been signed up to lead the bill this year including – Ella Eyre, Sigma, Shola Ama, and DJ Luck and MC Neat among them.
Organiser Joe Pointon wants to end the event’s six year stay in Witcombe and send it to just outside Brockworth, just off junction 11A southbound of the M5 on land which technically lies in Churchdown.
He said: “This is great news, great news for Gloucestershire. Absolutely ecstatic and I’m really excited now for the August bank holiday. Me and the team can’t wait to deliver on this amazing event that everybody looks forward to. The secret is out.”Tags: Cider Festival Featured Phats and Small Witcombe
